Richard Bowie (called "Rick overtime"), 52, flying for 20 years, flew and flys all around the world, more than 2000 hours gliding.  BBGliding is proud to have him on our team. He is an Air Experience Instructor.

 

Norman Sanders, flying for 50 years, (Planes and Gliders) was a commercial pilot.  A very experienced pilot, was a senator in USA and Tasamania for some years, has led a very interesting life and has many many tales. You can count on him to give you a great fly. Glider Instructor Level 1.

Jerome Allen, 43, flying for 4 Years, a local business man . This always smiling friend is what we call a "natural pilot": regardless of whichever aircraft he pilots, the flight will always be perfect. He is an Air Experience Instructor.

Bill Host, 50, Gliding for 20 years, Skydiver master and instructor. BBGliding is proud to have such a reliable pilot on our team. He is an Air Experience Instructor.

Byron Bay Gliding is the main gliding club in northern NSW with more than 400 joy flights and 650 hours flown last year.

We currently operate a fleet of four self launching gliders, amongst them the DG 500 M, the very best in  two seater competition sailplanes and the ASK 21 MI.

The ASK 21 MI has been purchased in 2006, brand new! It's the latest technology available.

We offer joy flights as well as introductory and full courses for those wanting to learn to fly.

Our friendly professional instructors will introduce you to the wonders and exhileration of the sport of soaring.

They have been flying the local ridges, thermals and waves for thousands of hours and will give you the best and safest possible experience.

All our instructors are certified through the Gliding Federation of Australia. They have a wealth of local knowledge and will give you the best, safest, and most enjoyable flight and training. 

We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest safety standards and the excellent quality of the glider fleet, which currently consists of two Motorfalkes, a RF 5 and the well renowned DG 500 M, and the ASK 21 MI. The DG and the ASK are the only such gliders available for joy flights in Australia.

DG 500 M: This high performance master of the sky has a 22-meter wingspan with a retractable engine making it ideal for exploring and finding the “ultimate soaring adventure” in the skies.

ASK 21 MI: fully aerobatic! quiet and gentle or able to turn your world upside down!

No matter what aircraft or flight you choose, we are certain that a glimpse into the sport of gliding will give you a new understanding of the skies.

Our hope is that all of our passengers and students will want to continue their soaring adventures for as long as the skies are open to having them.

How to find us ...

We are conveniently located just 8 kilometers (8 minutes) North of downtown Byron Bay. Just head North from Byron Bay on the Pacific Coast Highway and get off at the Tyagarah Airfield / Gray’s Lane turn off. Turn second left onto Cloud St and you will find us just 100 meters up the road, the large blue hangar on your right.
